Job Title : Technical Adviser/Technical Consultant (depending on experience)
Reports to : Head of Advisory Services
Business/Function : Advisory Services, ACCA UK
Location : Lincolns Inn Fields, London

A team of seven qualified accountants is responsible for the provision of a range of essential technical support services to ACCA members.

Nature & Scope
It is a challenging and exciting role and would be a progressive step for someone wanting to move from a traditional practice background. It draws on many of the positive aspects of practice such as the ability to help support people, whether for clients or members and provides a unique opportunity to make a difference.

Advisory Services has developed a strong relationship with members and has a good reputation for the quality of service provided.

As ACCA has sought to provide leadership in the fast-changing small practice sector, there has been an increasing emphasis on value added services. The team is also responsible for producing a range of topical technical factsheets and articles and answers technical and ethical queries from members by telephone, e-mail, fax and letter.

It is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to enhance their current technical knowledge and to develop specialisms in particular technical areas. This extends further to the possibility of support for training for an additional relevant qualification.

Principal Accountabilities
Key responsibilities will include:

"researching and writing factsheets/newsletter articles on topical technical issues
"contributing to the development of practice manuals/products with an emphasis on value added services and practice efficiency
"providing practical advice on a range of practice management issues
"providing guidance on the operation of ACCA regulations and Rules of Professional Conduct
"providing technical advice, in the areas of financial reporting, auditing, taxation and company law, to members/firms, both through assisting with the manning of the telephone "hot-line" (which is covered by the team on a rota basis) and dealing with correspondence
"Option to lecture on technical developments (this provides an ideal opportunity to develop lecturing skills in a receptive environment)
"attending ACCA Technical Committee meetings to provide input at the consultative phase

Person Specification
The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

"ACCA, ACA, CA or possibly ATT or CTA with experience of general accounting as well as tax.
"A knowledge of current accounting and auditing issues, with the ability to practically apply the knowledge
"a knowledge of taxation issues, with the ability to practically apply the knowledge
"solid post qualification experience in a relevant environment.
"excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to write 'plain English'
"be able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and on own initiative
