Responsibilities:

To ensure the specific Financial Services business unit meets its financial and non-financial objectives. In particular, to optimise the use of resources (eg, people, financial, space) and report on performance, driving operational excellence at all times.
The role will require the individual to maintain a close understanding of the key issues and challenges facing the department and be a key driver in developing improved solutions for the Business Unit partners.

Operations:
• Key communications entry point for the business unit
• Link with central functions (finance, operations, human resources, sales and marketing) to execute/ provide support for specific initiatives
• Undertaking ad hoc project work at the request of the partners. Proactively implement new operational processes.

P&L finance:
• Contributing towards setting the annual budget for the group, reviewing previous years spend and assessing levels needed
• Monitor and forecast performance against budget on a weekly/monthly/quarterly and annual basis. Review figures such as chargeable hours/fees and gross margin to ensure that budget variances are understood and appropriately managed
• Monitoring controllable overheads for the group ensuring that they are not overspending in any areas and reviewing standard recharges for reasonableness
• Enhancing and preparing management information eg: headcount, utilisation, availability, forecast revenues to facilitate proactive management of the business. Developing new management information to enhance the understanding of the business. Holding regular meetings with the Business Unit Leader to review management information and to recommend action required as a result. Ensure the group maximises operational performance across the business
• Work with partner targets and actuals within the business unit and service line.

Resourcing
• Maintain a strategic overview of staffing and utilisation for the business unit, balancing the needs of the business with individual career goals.
• Ensuring all staff requests are met across the group (including secondment opportunities), and staff are deployed effectively, pro-actively resolving shortages and planning clashes. Liaising with counsellors and HR to keep abreast of the development needs of all individuals in the group to ensure planning is aligned
• Proactive linkage with central resourcing team to ensure effective staff deployment

Qualifications

Person:

The successful person will likely have an accounting, audit or business advisory background but who has also become slightly broader and experienced operations, possibly recruitment and strategy. The role will be assist our client with their integration and roll-out of the EMEA region so the challenges and remit are far and reaching.
