Responsibilities:
Indirect tax Accountant - 75%
§ To ensure the Group is fully compliant with all VAT requirements
§ Accumulate return data (VAT, Intrastat & EC Sales List returns) for Group's trading businesses (metals, petroleum, gas & power) operating out of London, Geneva, US
§ Review data for returns for accuracy & completeness. Provide feedback to schedulers, and other providers of information where applicable.
§ Prepare reports from a range of source systems for monthly/quarterly returns
§ Reconcile VAT balance sheet accounts to source systems on a monthly basis.
§ Prepare draft returns, including core data support, for review by VAT Advisors
§ Assist schedulers in chasing outstanding AAD`s on chains
§ Resolve queries from VAT advisors or VAT authorities
§ Prepare VAT returns for office costs for Dutch, US and UK entities
§ Maintain up-to-date database of VAT procedures.
§ Administer VAT audits as and when they occur
§ Stay current with VAT jurisdiction regulation changes. Keep relevant parties updated.
§ Identify training opportunities for VAT. Update and provide VAT training to trading businesses (London, Geneva, US, Rotterdam) to ensure continued VAT awareness and compliance.
§ Keep VAT registrations up-to-date. Arrange new registrations and identify where de-registrations can take place
§ Provide advice & support/research answers to European VAT and customs queries/issues
§ Assist in vetting new businesses for VAT, customs and duty implications
Corporate & income tax accountant - 25%
§ Month-end close, balance sheet stewardship, management reporting and analysis for UK entities
§ Prepare annual corporation tax packs for UK entities. Work with external tax advisers to ensure corporation tax returns filed by pre-agreed deadlines.
§ Prepare quarterly corporation tax schedules for UK and Dutch entities for US tax reporting.
§ Provide tax support to US tax dept. Work closely with US tax dept to keep them updated on European tax matters. Assist US tax dept with taxation matters e.g UK returns for LP branch.
§ Review weekly business travel & entertainment expense claims for London and Geneva to ensure tax compliance.
§ Prepare annual P11d and PSA returns for London office (UK benefits in kind) and benefit in kind analysis for Geneva office.
Skills
§ Minimum 3 years accounting and tax experience including preparation of VAT and corporation tax returns
§ Accounting and/or tax qualification
§ Experience in refining, physical commodity trading (metals, petroleum), and/or gas & power business highly desirable
§ Good systems skills
