You are a Junior or graduate with excellent numeracy and are looking to get into the finance sector.
This company trades European credit (corporate debt - bonds and an increasing number of CDS and loans) to create a return from credit exposure on those positions on behalf of a number of funds for their investors.
The company hedge out the interest rate and FX risk using swaps. These funds generally use a limited degree of leverage. There are also more complex structures on the liability management side of the business that allows them to solve more complex returns for the fund's clients (e.g. mirror swaps).
The tax department is involved in all areas of the business. Specifically the department focuses on providing structuring advice for the funds and the calculation of the tax figures for the funds under a variety of tax regimes. The tax department is thus exposed to all areas of the business and is involved in shaping new funds.
With the growing demands on the tax department, this company is looking to further systematise and automate their existing computational procedures.
To achieve this, only a high calibre individual who is able to help with the automation and development of systems need apply.
The ideal candidate will have a 2.1 or above in a numerate, technical subject (Maths, Physics, Engineering, etc) and will have significant programming experience although not necessarily in a work environment. Experience of the financial / banking sector is a bonus as is some tax or accounting experience (even if this is from an academic environment).
The work you will undertake will include:
* The generation of existing interim and year end tax figures
* Help with the automation of existing systems
* Assisting in the development and automation of new tax systems
* Integrating the internal systems with the company’s auditor’s systems
* Assisting with the due diligence of future systems
* Occasional one off prototyping projects.
