Our client, a fast growing and innovative top 20 accounting practice, is looking to recruit tax partners in both their Leeds & Manchester offices. Although the two offices are at different stages in their evolution, and consequently offer different challenges to incoming partners, the skills and expertise sought from the prospective partners in each location are broadly similar. In both locations the primary objective will be to develop and lead the tax team locally and be very visible in the local community, whilst playing a full role in positioning tax as a vital part of the service offering in the firm’s marketing activities. You will be a highly motivated self-starter with commercial flair and must be an effective team player. On a technical level you will have several years’ experience in a broad range of tax issues (probably with a corporate tax background and a focus towards ambitious entrepreneurial SMEs and AIM companies). Recent experience in tax planning related to corporate transactions is also key. These roles offer real autonomy at a local level but within the framework of a national team. Mike Longman (FCA CTA) was formerly an equity partner and Head of Tax in the Manchester office of Baker Tilly. He has over 15 years experience of building tax teams and departments and of recruiting tax specialists as an employer. He is currently the Chairman of the Manchester branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Joanna Longman is a VAT specialist and was formerly Regional Head of VAT at one of the Big 4 firms before becoming VAT Director of a large local practice in the North West. She has been an active member of various chapters of the VAT Practitioners Group.
Louise Gibson, who is also a Director, focuses on recruiting part / newly qualified tax staff and also Managers. Louise, a tax recruitment specialist, has several years experience gained whilst working in a large national agency (where she latterly handled all their professional tax recruitment in Manchester).
Gavin McBride joined us as our Regional Business Manager for Yorkshire and the North East in August 2007 when we opened our office in Leeds. Gavin is ATT qualified and was formerly a Private Client Tax Manager for a firm in his home town of Harrogate. He has twelve years tax experience in the profession working for both national and local firms in Yorkshire. Gavin handles candidates across Yorkshire and the Northeast. He covers a large geographical area and spends much of his time meeting candidates and clients from South Yorkshire up to the Scottish border. His motivation for moving from practice into tax recruitment was to use his experience of the tax profession to provide candidates and clients with a genuinely professional and personal service. Gavin is a committee member of the Leeds branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
