Head of Indirect Tax, Ladbrokes Coral Group, London

Ladbrokes Coral Group is a market leading British based betting and gaming group, formed by the recent merger of Ladbrokes and Gala Coral in 2016. The business has operations across the UK, Europe and APAC, through both retail outlets and a significant digital platform. As the business goes through this exciting transition, a clear requirement has emerged for a new Head of Indirect Taxes based in their Stratford, London office.

Pure Search have been engaged exclusively to identify senior Indirect Tax talent, either from an in-house or practice background, for this challenging role. This will be an ideal opportunity for an existing Senior Manager/Director looking to for an engaging opportunity within an evolving business.

Job description

The key purpose of this role is to provide leadership on all indirect tax issues, both internally within the business, and externally with tax authorities and industry bodies. As the principal subject matter expert on all indirect tax issues, you will provide both technical and commercial advice to tax, finance and operational teams.

Key responsibilities:

* Working with the Group Tax Director and other key decision makers within the business, to develop and deliver a robust strategy for Indirect Taxes across the group.
* Act as business partner for the UK and international operational businesses and finance teams.
* Involvement in projects to ensure that the indirect tax issues are dealt with correctly.
* Proactively identify, manage and implement opportunities for the business.
* Oversight of the end-to-end compliance process for the group's VAT returns, EC Sales List and gambling duty returns, including oversight of divisional finance teams.
* Monitor the UK partial exemption special method (PESM) to ensure that it continues to achieve a fair and reasonable result for the UK VAT group entities
* Manage historic claims and litigation as appropriate in order to manage costs and generate positive results for the business.
* Work closely with external advisors, Liaise with relevant trade bodies, competitors and professional bodies to keep abreast of industry issues.
* Manage the relationship with HMRC and HMT as appropriate for all indirect tax matters.
* Keep up to date with the constantly changing regulatory environment.
* Develop, mentor and support the Indirect Tax Manager, who will assist in the above duties.

Specialist Skills and Experience Required:

* Prior experience in an indirect tax leadership role (or the ability to step-up to such a role).
* Strong VAT technical knowledge, including experience with cross border and international tax matters, including fixed establishment rules.
* Experience of the betting and gaming industry or experience with VAT-exempt / partially exempt businesses preferred.
* Strong communication skills for explaining tax concepts to a non-tax audience.
