Reporting directly to the Head of Tax, the purpose of the role is to lead on driving financial excellence, ensuring that the business has sustainable foundations to secure future. This will include maintaining robust internal policies, processes and controls to enable all indirect tax reporting activities to shareholders and external stakeholders (tax, statutory, regulatory, investor and other reporting requirements), including the auditors to be prepared accurately, timely and of high quality.

The role holder is accountable for ensuring that the group complies with all indirect tax legislation/taxes on consumption - VAT, Excise Duties, Customs Duty, Carbon Taxation, Landfill, Aggregates, IPT etc. and accounts for tax appropriately, taking responsibility for meeting external tax compliance and reporting obligations and developing an excellent relationship with the UK tax authorities whilst ensuring that Heathrow's direct costs are minimised. Lobbying the UK tax authorities/HM Treasury and Government in relation to complex tax technical issues to influence/change tax legislation.

The role holder is also required to demonstrate strong leadership in building a culture of tax awareness across the business to drive continuous improvement; providing a source of high quality tax advice which is relevant, easily understood and drives the finance function's strategic initiative to enable group to deliver its value potential, whilst ensuring that there are no surprises. This will cover providing direction and advice to the group Executive, Strategic Policy and External Affairs teams, Policy Coordination Group, Brexit Contingency Group and Airport Services' advisor group on a wide range of fast moving Tax Policy areas - Carbon Taxation, Aviation Taxation (including APD), and new Tax & Trade Regimes that could be considered following EU exit such as Freeports, Tax Free Shopping and Net Zero Carbon taxation

This role will lead, develop and motivate their direct report to deliver financial excellence for the business and to achieve objectives within Finance and overall company objectives.

The candidate should have a strong ability in simplifying and communicating effectively at a senior level complex tax messages, challenging constructively, displaying a broad knowledge of tax and financial concepts.
