The organisation

Saffery Champness is an independent UK top 20 firm of chartered accountants, with nine offices across the UK and overseas offices in Guernsey and Geneva. The firm has 68 UK partners and over 430 staff and is a leading member of Nexia International, a global association of accounting firms.

Saffery Champness provides a wide range of expert financial, tax and business advice to a diverse client base. The firm focuses on advising owner-managed businesses in a variety of commercial sectors, wealthy individuals, families and trusts, sports and entertainment, charities, other not-for-profit organisations and landed estates.

Our style is personal and progressive and we provide training and development opportunities for all our staff as our achievement of the Investors in People accreditation has demonstrated. The firm has also received an award, for the thirteenth year running, from the Corporate Research Foundation for being one of UK’s Top Employers.

The department

The London tax department is currently organised into five direct tax groups: one corporate tax group, three predominantly personal tax groups and a tax advisory group.

We are looking to recruit a Corporate Tax semi-senior to join the corporate tax group. The corporate tax team provides direct tax advice to clients and provides support to partners and the client base of the two London audit groups, Business Advisory and Private Wealth & Estates Group.  Additionally, the group provides tax advice to the regional offices either directly or via the London tax partners, together with general backup and support to regional tax staff.  Tax planning arises as a matter of course across the group’s diverse portfolio.

The role

Duties will include dealing with the compliance aspects of the tax work, including preparation of corporation tax returns and computations, running a portfolio of clients and involvement with tax planning and projects on an ad hoc basis. The role provides a variety of work as the corporate client portfolio is varied and includes OMBs, SMEs, groups (including international groups) and some not-for-profit organisations.

The individual

The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate that they are confident in dealing with their colleagues, partners and clients alike. In order to manage their portfolios, prioritisation and organisational skills are essential to ensure all deadlines are met. Individuals must be able to work on their own initiative in this respect. As with any role it is essential that applicants have the ability to provide accurate work in a timely and cost effective manner.

With this role, come the pre-requisites that the candidate is motivated, committed and flexible with the ability to meet deadlines. A natural team player is essential, with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Some corporation tax experience is essential, whether obtained in practice or in industry. Applications would be welcomed from candidates who are ATT-qualified and/or ACA/ACCA-qualified or part-qualified.
