EMEA VAT compliance manager

This position would be based in the Global Accounting Center, Dublin 24. Direct report to EMEA VAT manager

Main responsibilities:

• Manage the timely submission of all VAT returns together with other VAT compliance related matters (e.g. Intrastats, EC Sales Lists) for the EMEA entities of the group
• Manage the timely VAT payments and/or VAT recovery
• Manage the process for EMEA compliance activities including foreign VAT registrations and compliance with all European VAT laws and regulations and minimize group risk and exposure
• Monitor the quality of the data/reports prepared internally (by the SCC)
• Identify system issues and opportunities to continuously improve the VAT compliance processes
• Actively participate in projects to transition entities and countries into the SSC
• Train the responsible teams where necessary
• Act as the central point of contact between the local finance manager and the SSC and towards the external service providers for the VAT compliance activities
• Follow-up on and review the monthly VAT reconciliations for the VAT accounts
• Assist with refund claims under EC 8th and 13th Directives as appropriate
• Assist with VAT inspections and audits, including gathering information and responding to information requests

Profile:

• Academic background with tax qualification
• 4 to 6 years’ experience in VAT compliance (preferably combined big4 and shared service center)
• Strong understanding of VAT and regulatory compliance processes in Europe
• Basic understanding of other compliance activities such as statutory accounting
• Understanding of internal control processes in a large corporate environment
• Profound knowledge of common software (MS office, Excel, Access) & company/business-specific software applications
• Experience with VAT compliance software e.g. Avalara
• Appreciation of complex (non-integrated) business system interactions and control issues arising
• Fluent in English, additional languages recommended
• Ability to work in a structured, independent and result-driven way along with having strong analytical capabilities
