Magic circle law firm is now looking to recruit a Head of International Tax to sit in their in-house tax team

International Tax Duties

* Lead the international tax team of one senior manager, one manager, two tax consultants and one assistant, (two in London and three in Belfast), providing supervision and coaching, setting direction for the team.

* Advisory, technical analysis and project management work with advisors, CFOs and legal advisors (internal and external).

* Ad-hoc projects requiring understanding of internal accounting and revenue processes and working with global finance teams to deliver results, in particular withholding tax management.

* Plan and manage the year-end process work to produce non-UK tax reserve calculations, tax equalisation calculations and accounts notes.

* Oversight and risk management of the tax compliance. This includes, managing advisors and internal teams, both internationally and in London, to support local CFOs with the various tax filings for the firm, the partners and the shadow partners. The local CFOs have responsibility to ensure that the filings and related tax payments are made on a timely and accurate basis in all 30+ territories.

* Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to allocate all non UK tax payments to relevant partners.

* Manage team producing UK Double Taxation Relief calculations for around 200 UK resident members of the LLP.

* Responsibility for ensuring efficient management of tax reserves both in GBP and in currency, for both shadow and non-shadow partners, and overall responsibility for the regular releases of tax reserves to partners. The work includes the "true up" of various tax equalisation arrangements.

* Reviewing ad hoc tax filings in non LLP territories (e.g. India) and advising on potential exposures elsewhere.

* Constant review of structure and processes to identify scope for improvement.

* Develop detailed understanding of the tax system in LLP territories and the partner payment side of the PAT team's work.

* Assist and support CFOs in managing local tax audits.

What you'll need to succeed

* Desirable qualifications including g ACA or CTA.

* Broad knowledge of international tax issues affecting professional partnerships.

* Adaptable: must be prepared to work on other projects e.g. UK tax planning.

* Focus on risk based approach, establishing processes for reporting to the Associate Director of Partners' Affairs and Tax and the firm's Audit Committee.

* Personable with ability to develop strong relationships with finance staff, working collaboratively with key tax advisors, partners within A&O including tax partners and with managing partners of offices.

* Ability to communicate complex tax and accounting issues both orally and in writing at the highest levels (e.g. Audit Committee, managing partners).
