Overview of the role:
The Customer Compliance Group (CCG) was established in October 2016, bringing together all HMRC’s customer compliance directorates into a single compliance function. CCG employs over 25,000 staff and has responsibility for collecting nearly £26bn in tax revenues in 2018-19.

CCG’s focus is to ensure that HMRC collects the right tax at the right time from UK taxpayers, investigates offences against the tax system, and takes action to identify and mitigate potential threats. This approach is guided by our Promote, Prevent, Respond strategy, which is focused on ensuring compliance as early as possible in the customer’s interaction with HMRC, including by helping eliminate customer error through the use of new digital tools and systems -allowing us to focus resources on tackling the most significant risks of criminal attack, fraud and deliberate misapplication of the tax rules.

Counter-Avoidance is responsible for tackling marketed-avoidance both operationally and through policy change. It collected nearly £2 billion in tax revenues in 2017/2018.

The Director of Counter-Avoidance is a critical senior leadership role at the heart of CCG, helping to ensure robust delivery of our objectives and realisation of HMRC's strategy.

The Director is accountable for:

• Leading the policy, technical and operational delivery of Counter Avoidance.
• Successfully delivering an effective counter-avoidance strategy and tackling marketed-avoidance risks in order to maximise revenue loss prevented, and contribute to Tax Gap closure.
