Summary

Innovation and passion are at the core of our culture. We believe in public service and we are proud of the work we do. We can only do that by being an inclusive and diverse organisation. To be successful as a leader in C&P you will need to demonstrate active on-going support for your team, invest in the capabilities of our people and foster an environment where everyone can feel respected.

Job description

Are you a talented management professional, striving to be a dynamic leader of the future? If so, HMRC wants you!

As one of Europe’s leading tax authorities and the institution responsible for funding the entirety of the UK’s public services, HMRC’s managers need to personify its values: Innovation, Integrity, Professionalism, and Respect; consequently, you’ll need to live and work by this mantra, instilling it in your teams and colleagues.

As a manager in HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group, you’ll be a proactive leader who guides, motivates, and encourages your team and others to achieve their best. You’ll also have a knack for spotting talent and be an innovative thinker and planner, aiming to continuously improve for the success of yourself, your team, and the department.

The Individual and Small Business (ISBC) Directorate deals with HMRC’s largest and most diverse group of customers.

Campaigns and Projects (C&P) is one of three integrated compliance operational delivery teams within ISBC transforming how we do compliance work. C&P provide CCG with a fast-paced compliance operation, using a range of office-based interventions.

Within ISBC, we work with other parts of CCG to deal with the risk in their areas. Our projects are innovative, processes are streamlined and our interventions use cross-grade, task-based approaches. These include campaigns where we aim to change customer behaviour through activities ranging from publicity & voluntary disclosure opportunities to selective civil or criminal investigations.

All available roles are offered on a 5 over 7 contract - more details are contained within the candidate pack.

Responsibilities

• Making leadership interventions and decisions – working with a wide variety of colleagues across the organisation, planning and solving problems collaboratively, towards shared goals;

• Setting the standards of performance and attendance, and maintaining them, providing timely feedback to your team;

• Encouraging change;

• Monitoring quality and providing training to enable improvement as needed;

• Managing real-time targets and standards information;

• Utilising communication and management techniques to produce quality outcomes, challenging negativity and rewarding positive contributions and achievements;

• Providing accurate forecasts and plans to meet business needs by facilitating effective use of resource.

• Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement by reviewing process and practices.

Your team will be diverse and inclusive, and you’ll be interacting with a varied and multicultural customer and stakeholder base, so strong people skills and an inclusive outlook are a must.

Behaviours

We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

As well as competitive salaries and generous leave entitlements, we offer a substantial package of benefits including:

• Generous paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave

• A community volunteering programme, the opportunity to join a trade union, and discounted membership of local and national sports and social groups

• Salary advances for travel costs, including annual season tickets and cycle-to-work schemes.

If you are applying for a role in an office within a regional centre location or a transitional or specialist site, then the following may apply: Daily Travel Assistance will be available for this role, provided the successful applicant is a current HMRC employee and meets the eligibility requirements outlined in the department’s Daily Travel Assistance guidance.
