Head of Tax - Financial Services, London

The Opportunity

We’re partnering with a leading, purpose-driven financial services organisation to appoint a Head of Tax — a senior and highly influential position with full responsibility for the group’s tax strategy, governance, and compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity to shape and modernise the tax function within a complex, values-led financial services group. Working closely with senior leadership, you’ll influence strategic decisions, strengthen tax policy and governance, and ensure the organisation remains robust as it grows in scale and complexity.

It is a fast paced and collaborative environment ideal for a senior tax professional who wants to combine technical excellence with purpose and long-term impact.

● Lead and implement the group’s tax strategy, ensuring alignment with financial and organisational objectives.
● Oversee all aspects of tax compliance, including corporate tax, VAT, and reporting.
● Manage tax risk and governance frameworks across the group.
● Advise senior leadership on the tax implications of transactions, investments, and strategic initiatives.
● Act as the key liaison with HMRC, auditors, and external advisers.
● Drive continuous improvement and best practice in tax processes and controls.

About You

We’re looking for a strategic and hands-on tax professional with strong tax technical expertise, commercial acumen, and excellent stakeholder skills.
You will bring:

● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related discipline, with a master’s degree or professional qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CTA) preferred
● A minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in tax, including experience in a senior leadership role ideally within pension funds.
● Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation, with experience in pension taxation considered an advantage.
● A proven ability to develop and deliver effective tax strategies in complex organisations.
● Experience leading teams and influencing at senior leadership level – willing to consider experienced senior managers who are ready to step up into a Head of Tax role.
● A collaborative communicator with a values-driven approach and demonstrative business partnering skills.
