Tax Underwriter, London, to £150k

A specialist Managing General Agent is looking to hire a Tax Associate to join its growing tax underwriting team. This role sits at the intersection of tax, insurance and M&A, offering exposure to complex UK and cross-border transactions without the hours or structure of traditional advisory or legal practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional or lawyer looking to apply their technical expertise in a commercial, deal-driven underwriting environment.

The Role

You will support the underwriting of tax risks arising from mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, financings and other corporate transactions. Working closely with senior underwriters, brokers and external advisers, you will assess the nature of tax exposures, help shape insurance solutions, and contribute to underwriting decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Analyse UK and international tax risks presented in transactional scenarios

Review tax due diligence reports, legal opinions and transaction documents

Support underwriting decisions, including risk assessment, policy terms and pricing

Liaise with brokers, clients and external advisers on technical tax matters

Assist with drafting and reviewing tax insurance policy wordings

Track developments in tax legislation and case law relevant to underwriting

Support claims teams on technical tax issues where required

About You

Qualified or part-qualified tax professional or lawyer

Background in tax advisory, Big 4, law firm, or in-house tax environment

Strong understanding of corporate tax in an M&A or transactional context

Commercial mindset with the ability to apply tax knowledge pragmatically

Clear communicator, comfortable discussing technical issues with non-specialists

Curious, analytical and keen to build a career in tax underwriting
