Partnership Director – Strategic Tax & Governance Role

The Partnership Manager has overarching responsibility for the governance, oversight, and effective delivery of all matters relating to the partnership’s and members’ tax compliance obligations. The role operates as a senior trusted adviser to the partnership, providing technical leadership, operational oversight, and strategic input across partnership taxation, member financial governance, and broader firm‑wide tax initiatives, including global mobility and complex tax projects.

Key Responsibilities


Provide strategic oversight and high‑quality service to approximately 50 members of Partners International LLP, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of all member‑related tax reporting.


Serve as the senior point of accountability for the relationship with the external outsourcing provider, including:

Governance and oversight of partner tax reserving processes
Review and validation of Payments on Account (POA) calculations
Quality control over individual tax return filing packs

Lead and own the current tax outsourcing transformation, ensuring:

Effective transition and embedding of outsourced processes
Robust controls over member tax reserves
Ongoing monitoring of POA calculations and compliance milestones

Exercise ownership of members’ current accounts, including:

Oversight of monthly and quarterly movements
Formal sign‑off of balances in support of SOX control requirements
Identification and resolution of anomalies or emerging risks

Provide strategic oversight of the annual year‑end true‑up of members’ tax reserves, ensuring methodologies are appropriate and outcomes are consistent with firm policy and tax risk appetite.


Review and oversee self‑assessment payments on account for all individual members, including direction of communications, validation of technical assumptions, and selective use of outsourcing to drive efficiency.


Oversee the review of payments to members in respect of annual RSU awards, including tax settlement mechanics through share repayment and alignment with tax and payroll reporting requirements.


Assume overall responsibility for the preparation, review, and filing of the annual partnership tax return, ensuring technical accuracy, timeliness, and consistency with member reporting.


Act as a senior adviser to firms Human Capital Group on partnership matters, including:

Review of Schedules of Terms (SoTs) for prospective partners, ensuring alignment with the LLP’s profit‑sharing framework and compliance with UK tax and partnership legislation
Leadership of the tax and financial aspects of admitting new members, including HMRC registrations and the establishment of monthly drawings

Lead the annual Salaried Member Review, taking responsibility for:

Design and robustness of the testing methodology
Judgement‑based conclusions on compliance status
Clear communication of outcomes and risks to the Head of Tax via an executive‑level summary

Maintain an informed and forward‑looking view of legislative and regulatory developments affecting UK partnerships, proactively briefing the Head of Tax on emerging risks, opportunities, or required changes to policy or process.

Act as a key contributor to current and future partnership‑related initiatives, supporting the Head of Tax on strategic projects, governance enhancements, and change management initiatives.

Participate in global and local tax projects, contributing partnership tax expertise and ensuring alignment with broader firm objectives.

In saying all this, the firm is going through a change initiative and needs to look at how it runs and own data, move the function forward in using AI and tech and would love a Partnership Tax Director, that will help the firm bring in this change.
