A leading not-for-profit organisation is looking to appoint a Group Tax Manager to take ownership of tax across the group. This is a broad, standalone role, offering responsibility for the full tax agenda across corporation tax, VAT, employment taxes, payroll-related tax matters, governance, risk, controls and advisory work.
The role would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, variety and stakeholder engagement, with the ability to operate as the organisation’s key point of contact for all tax matters.
The Role
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for managing tax compliance, advisory and governance across the group. You will work closely with finance, payroll, HR, legal, operations and external advisors to ensure the organisation remains compliant, well-controlled and commercially informed from a tax perspective.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into a highly visible role within a purpose-led organisation, where they can shape tax processes, improve controls and act as the trusted tax advisor across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Take full ownership of tax across the group, acting as the main point of contact for all tax matters.
Manage corporation tax compliance, reporting, payments, disclosures and associated advisory work.
Oversee VAT compliance and advisory matters, including partial exemption, option to tax, property-related VAT, business/non-business activities and input tax recovery.
Advise on employment taxes, payroll taxes, benefits, expenses, PAYE/NIC, PSA/P11D matters and wider workforce-related tax issues.
Develop and maintain tax governance, controls, policies and risk management processes across the organisation.
Partner with finance, HR, payroll, legal, property, operations and senior stakeholders on tax-related queries and projects.
Manage relationships with HMRC and external advisors, ensuring matters are handled efficiently and appropriately.
Support project work across the group, including property transactions, restructuring, funding arrangements, contracts, systems, process improvements and new initiatives.
Provide practical, commercially aware tax advice to non-tax stakeholders across the organisation.
Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes, assessing the impact on the group and implementing any required changes.
Candidate Requirements
Strong UK tax experience, either from practice, industry, not-for-profit, housing, charity, real estate or a similarly complex organisation.
Broad tax knowledge across corporation tax, VAT and employment taxes.
Good understanding of VAT issues relevant to not-for-profit or property-heavy organisations would be highly advantageous.
Experience managing tax compliance, governance, controls and advisory matters.
Comfortable operating in a standalone tax role, with the confidence to act as the organisation’s in-house tax lead.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain tax clearly to non-tax colleagues.
Practical, hands-on and commercially minded, with the ability to balance technical accuracy with pragmatic advice.
ACA, CTA, ACCA or equivalent qualification preferred, although strong relevant experience will also be considered.
