£65,000 - 85,000 + Benefits
Clark Wood – Tax Recruitment

Clark Wood are currently working with a highly regarded and growing accountancy practice in St Albans who are looking to recruit a Private Client Tax Manager or Senior Manager into their established tax team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Private Client Tax professional looking for a role combining portfolio management, complex advisory work, direct Partner exposure and team management.

The firm has an excellent reputation within Private Client Tax and advises a high-quality portfolio predominantly consisting of high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, sole traders and partnerships, alongside individuals with UK and international tax considerations.

The position offers a particularly strong level of advisory exposure, with Inheritance Tax planning forming a significant part of the role alongside CGT, residence, trusts, pension planning and wider personal tax matters.

The Role:

Working directly with the Partners, you will take responsibility for your own portfolio of Private Client Tax clients while playing an important role in the continued development of the team.

Responsibilities will include:

- Managing a varied portfolio of HNW private clients
- Reviewing Self-Assessment tax returns and overseeing annual compliance requirements
- Advising clients across Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax
- Working closely with Partners on complex Private Client advisory assignments
- Advising on IHT and succession planning, residence, UK trusts, pension planning and appropriate business structures
- Exposure to internationally mobile individuals, including clients coming to and leaving the UK
- Advising clients who are beneficiaries of UK and non-UK trusts
- Attending and contributing to existing and prospective client meetings
- Building strong, long-term relationships with clients and other professional advisers
- Dealing with HMRC enquiries and disclosure matters
- Managing budgets, billing and portfolio profitability
- Training, supervising and developing junior members of the team
- Contributing to departmental management meetings
- Supporting networking and business development activity

The Candidate:

The successful individual will ideally be CTA qualified with a strong background in Private Client Tax gained within an accountancy practice, tax consultancy or similar professional environment.

For Manager level, you will ideally have at least 2 years' relevant Private Client Tax experience alongside your qualification.

For Senior Manager level, you will ideally have 5+ years' Private Client Tax experience and the ability to take ownership of more complex client relationships and advisory assignments.

A strong working knowledge of Inheritance Tax is particularly important, alongside experience across Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax.

You should also be comfortable managing your own portfolio, reviewing work, developing junior staff and working directly with senior stakeholders and clients.

Experience of CCH would be advantageous but isn't essential.

What's On Offer?

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for someone who wants to move into a role with genuine advisory substance rather than predominantly compliance work.

You'll be joining an established and highly regarded Private Client Tax team within a growing independent firm, offering the technical quality and client base associated with a much larger practice while retaining a friendly and collaborative working environment.

The client portfolio provides exposure to HNW individuals, entrepreneurs, internationally mobile clients, trusts and complex family wealth, with the opportunity to work directly alongside experienced Partners on sophisticated planning assignments.

There is excellent scope to continue developing technically, take on greater responsibility and progress your career over the longer term.
